Recent Happenings

Never fails spring has always been the busiest time of year for us and finally we are starting to get all caught up. Over the spring we worked with several of our editorial clients creating portraits of various talent around Las Vegas. Below are some of our recent favorites and we still have a lot more to show once we are totally caught up.

First up Rich Harrison of Pawn Stars for Time and general manager of KNPR Flo Rogers.

We worked with a very talented yoga instructor capturing some stills of the practice of hot yoga, we also got to spend a bit of time with Teller creating some portraits for Smithsonian Magazine.

Then we found ourselves with monster truck legend Cam McQueen for Canadian Business Magazine, and to wrap up this short post some portraits of Chris Satchell for Cigar Aficionado. We’ll share a bunch more in the coming weeks, until then enjoy….

Getting TANKED!

Been a bit behind on the blogging, sorry just a bit busy around these parts. One thing I did want to share was some recent work we did for Discovery and the Animal Planet for their TV show Tanked. The show Tanked follows around the crew of Acrylic Tank Manufacturing, which is a family business based in Las Vegas that makes some amazing fish tanks. We have been lucky enough to work with the crew on a couple different occasions, from creating and shooting their current pr images to creating and capturing on-set images with my latest shoot with them being with rocker legend Gene Simmons of KISS, great group of people and I look forward to working together again.

Vegas Seven & Vegas Magazine

The past couple of months have been beyond busy, below are a couple recent tears, one with swim suit designer Juliana Renz for Vegas Magazine and the other some images we shot for QuitWineing in Vegas Seven. All the shoots we have been doing have been a blast including a bunch of video work, stay tuned lots of cool stuff coming.

Some might have noticed a new category on our main site, “MOTION”, we have been capturing motion for awhile now and we’re ready to spread the word. Many factors have went into creating motion projects and none of it was taken lightly, with today’s cameras we have the ability to capture both still and motion in camera. Our motion department is headed by Trish Gumina-McMillen who has had her hands in shooting, editing and directing our projects along with several other things. One project we did a awhile back was to create a bunch of shorts for the company Vision Art Books, the makers of our printed portfolios. The final edits came out great, so jump over to our main site and take a spin through some clips.

Rick Harrison Pawn Stars for Time Magazine

The first time I walked into the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop in downtown Las Vegas was just after the hit show Pawn Stars aired on the History Channel, the place was crawling with stuff and I was hooked on the show. So when I got the call from Time Magazine to create some portraits of Rick Harrison the co-owner of the shop I jumped at the chance. Arriving at the shop we knew it would be busy, but we had no idea how busy, outside the main door there was a line of 40 people deep waiting to get in. The PR folks told us before the show aired the shop would average about 70 visits a day and now they average about 3000 visits a day, crazy. So when the time came to capture some portraits of Rick the crowd started to gather behind our roped off area in the back of the shop, people were snapping pics behind me like crazy and Rick took it all in stride. Rick Harrison was truly down to earth and a great guy, we chatted it up between lighting set-ups and he gave us an education on several things in the shop. Hats off to Rick and his crew at the shop for treating us so well…..

Teller Reveals His Secrets for Smithsonian Magazine

When we got the call from Smithsonian Magazine to capture Teller of Penn and Teller we were thrilled and jumped at the chance to capture him preforming a magic trick. The crux of the assignment was to create motion blur while having him lit by several strobes. In order to create the final images we had to do some trickery of our own, we started off by using 3 strobes and one hot light on his hands and captured him at a slow shutter speed. After several frames I decided I wanted to try something different, so we changed things around and ditched the hot light. In the end the final images were all lit with strobes fired at two different times, the first pop of the strobes lit his head and body and the second pop of one strobe lit his hands only a half second after the first ones popped, confused yet? Doing a lighting set-up this way allowed us to keep him in sharp focus while showing movement in his hands. So in the end it seems we used a bit of magic on him as well…. Check out the story HERE.
