Friday was one of those days we won’t forget anytime soon. Our day started at 3:30 a.m., hurried to the airport to catch a flight to Phoenix, landed, picked up rental car, drank some bad coffee and ate some not so good scrambled eggs. 12:00, meet with the stylist and creative director for the shoot to hash out last minute details, looks, and the over all concept for the look and feel of the images we would be creating of Danica Patrick. 1:00 arrive at studio, set-up our lighting, run tests, and dial in a couple last minute details, 3:30 start shooting, the goal was three different looks all with two different lighting set-ups. 6:00 wrapped the shoot, packed up and hurried to the airport to return the rental and catch a early flight home, 9:00 we were home.
Shooting out of town can always make things a little more exciting, you have flights to worry about, gear to travel with, costs to consider, and the stress of not playing on your home turf. That said we knew the studio we’d be shooting in had some of the lighting stuff we needed to produce one of the looks, but not everything we needed. We ended up traveling with three extra heads, some grids, and a ring flash, and I’m glad we packed that stuff, if not life would have sucked in a big, big way. The concept was pretty straight forward, three different looks all shot under two different lighting conditions, so we decided to just have two separate lighting set-ups ready to go, being as we had more then enough room in the studio, plus with the limited amount of time we knew this would speed things up. We were shooting tethered into Aperture on our laptop which made it easy for quick reviews of the images. All and all the shoot went really well, shooting out of town can always be a little stressful, but when you are working with a top-notch team it makes life a million times easier, so a big thanks to our Reps at Wonderful Machine for hooking us up and the folks below for doing what they do……
