2 Days & 50mph

Smart Money is running a couple images we shot for them a couple months back, regarding the Las Vegas Monorail. The assignment came with some challenges some big and some small, I mean how the heck do you light a fast moving train at 50 all the while trying to make it look futuristic? We were stumped for about 30 seconds until I told Trish my idea, she was like what? sure we can make it happen. In a nut shell the places the monorail runs are not ideal for shooting, the train mostly runs in the back alleys of the casino’s, not to mention basically every casino frowns on photographers shooting on their property, btw I am now on some sort of Vegas watch list, due to the fact I got busted for shooting from the parking lot of one of the silly casinos, more on that down the road. Now the set-up for the shoot, timing was everything and as the light was falling off our timing needed to be spot on to create an image that had a futuristic look with impact, o.k lets mount the camera to the roof of our car, check, now let’s mount a couple strobes to the roof as well, check, check, now lets shoot tethered from inside the car while driving 50mph firing the camera and the strobes, check, check, check. nailed it…..
